It’s the last Monday of the month which can only mean one thing: The Hot Mom is away at a Wonder Event! The boys are in the HOUSE! This list of must do’s:
1) Dinner- The Dad is going to whip something up… it will be loved by all!
2) Homework- math, spelling and reading… it will all get done!
3) Nerf Battle- shoot `em dead… it will be wild and crazy!

March 24, 2009
Today, SIX became SEVEN. The HOT MOM cooked a big breakfast with all of Elliot’s favorites- eggs, scooby doo waffles and bacon. When asked how it felt to be SEVEN, he replied, I’m NOT SEVEN UNTIL I BLOW OUT THE CANDLES ON THE CAKE! Can’t escape the genius in that statement. The HOT MOM and Pappaw dropped off cupcakes to school (gotta impress) and then SEVEN picked CiCi’s for his official birthday meal. What a day! Thanks to all for kind notes, words, cards and $$$ for the SUPER 7-YEAR OLD at the Blackstone Estate!

Yesterday’s press release stirred plenty of discussion inside of the Blackstone Estate. In order to keep it simple and ship-shape the show’s producers have initiated the following guidelines:
1) The Hot Mom must bring original content to the table. (This will keep her from buttering up the judges with Harvest Time classics)
2) For the other contestants (The Dad, 9 & 6)- songs can come from any genre and may include a verse and a chorus.
3) Open auditions may be submitted by the Super Intern and Super Cousins- who by lack of promotional funds may miss out on the shows live performances (Joe, Josh & Kate… feel free to submit your audition by way of the miracle of FB).
4) All contestants will appear on the show’s finale.
5) The finale will take place on March 8, 2009.
6) Promotional considerations and sponsor rights will be reviewed by The Dad. All proceeds will go to the College Funds, the boat or the golf course.
7) Makeup is allowed, but only on The Hot Mom.
The shows producers reserve the right to review the content and post only that which reflects in a positive way on The Dad.

Colegrove Idol kicked off it’s inaugural season on Sunday Night at the Blackstone Estate. At stake were 4 white-golden tickets to BlackstoneWood! (our version of Hollywood since The Dad won’t fork over all-expense paid trips to 90210.)
9 offered a stirring jazz rendition of “It Don’t Mean A Thing,” that impressed the judges and had Papa-Simon ready to see Ethan on the big stage!
6 turned in a riveting, nerve-free bit of the famed “The Snail Mail Delivers the Mail.” Elliot shocked the judges with him calm approach and anticipated big things in weeks to come.
The Hot Mom buttered up the judges with a tender original that even brought a tear to Grammy Paula. After much begging, she too received a coveted ticket to the next round.
The Dad received the final ticket of the day with his own original offering. The judges weren’t sure The Dad would be able to cross over from his gospel roots to create a stir in BlackstoneWood but since they had one ticket and no other auditions they didn’t have much of a choice.
In all week one proved that this contest is going to create plenty of excitement.
Stay tuned for your chance to vote in the rounds to come.

After a stirring conclusion to Hollywood Week on American Idol, The Colegroves have decided to premier a house version. The inaugural auditions in front of the judges take place on February 22. So far, the new show consists of 4 celebrated contestants- The Dad (getting kicked out of Pastor Hector’s choir in Dallas hasn’t squashed his Idol dreams…), The Hot Mom (she definitely has an edge since she’s the only one who has actually appeared on a CD (it’s the SDL Band and if you don’t have it we can make you a good deal on the remaining 300 copies…)), Ethan (his experience in the Honors Choir at ESE has prepared him for this lofty platform), and finally, Elliot (don’t discount the youngest of the contenders. He’s got his mom’s vocal chops and the moves to go with a culture-current genre- plus his favorite bands are Bon Jovi, Kingsfall and 30 Seconds to Mars.) Save the date for this adventure of a lifetime. Tickets for the show’s finale go on sale March 1, 2009.

This week, Eli joined his twin brother, Evan, in the ranks of ear tubes. The Colegroves are saying good-bye to ear infections! Hallelujah! The youngest of the E’s was a trooper, took it all in without incident and even spent a few moments testing his mad skills on The Dad’s iPhone. Kid’s got a strong future in communication!
The oldest of the E’s is in the midst of a 4th grade essay (Thesis for the title of T’s – as a communicator The Dad has an addiction of making points that start with the same letter…. pray for him). Ethan has chosen to write about Pokemon, of course. It’s been a two week process of writing, revising and prepping for the final draft. Of course, the amazing tutor, Ms. Sara, will help him knock the project out of the park. Thank God for Ms. Sara!

If you’re wondering how the Party of Six has spent the 21 days of fasting – here are three words to sum it up:
1) Barney- the twins are huge fans, know all of the songs, the moves & even the OnDemand “Sprout” intro theme.
2) Pokemon- the big boys battle daily, trade cards and actually spend the extra time to read about the power, the moves and the tricks to winning. Have to admit, we never thought Pikachu would be educational.
3) Bon Jovi- yes, finally something the Hot Mom can enjoy too! 9 & 6 might as well face it, they’re “addicted to love, living on a prayer and wanted dead or alive!”

After much talk and years of looking, the Party of Six is entering the boating world with the boys fav aunt and uncle. The gem arrived today and instantly created a buzz outside of the Blackstone Estate. 9 & 6 are already anticipating the wind blowing in their hair, fishing for that record bass and spending the nite in the boat storage (OK so maybe that’s The Dad’s idea). The accumulation of gear must now begin- skis, tubes, shorts with a good draw string… you know, because the boat looks really, really fast. Here’s a few other lessons learned:
1) Boat storage units look a lit bigger when they’re empty.
2) A trip that only takes 4 minutes, takes 20 minutes when you’re pulling a boat.
3) 9 & 6 are thrilled, but don’t expect them to wait patiently while you’re figuring out what kind of lighting hook up the trailer requires or while you’re discussing how to get the final 3 inches of the trailer into the storage unit.

9, 6, The Dad & The Papa made the trek to the Houston Boat Show. The boys found their true calling. Elliot says its on a 36-foot cruiser. Ethan picks whichever boat has the biggest TV and best 2nd bedroom. There’s no doubt 3 out of 6 agree, we feel called to walk on water. (in the comfort of a boat, any boat).

Here at the Blackstone estate we’re stoked about the new things we’ll try in 2009! From bikes to boats, snow skis to water skis, we’re going to take more adventures, be more daring and live life on the edge!
9 & 6 are in on the fun:
Ethan says this new year, he’d like to see the Midtown campus completed (9 already answering the call as a 4/5th generation pastor).
Elliot says he’s always doing new things so there.
The Hot Mom says she wants to take 2 weeks of vacation this summer (smart!)
It’s going to be a great year for the Party of Six!
